Legal Advisor (Associate)

129567

Location: Isle of Man, Douglas

Closing date for applications: 22nd July 2026

The opportunity:

This is an excellent opportunity for a junior lawyer who has gained relevant post-qualification experience and is looking to further progress their career by building broad in-house legal expertise with a leading global insurer.

As part of Zurich’s Legal team, you’ll work closely with the business to help identify and manage legal, regulatory, and corporate governance risks. Under the guidance of more senior colleagues, you’ll support the business in achieving its strategic and commercial objectives, always in line with applicable laws and regulations.

You’ll receive ongoing training, mentoring, and support as you build your knowledge of insurance and corporate governance and gain exposure to a wide range of work.

Key responsibilities:

Working with and under the supervision of senior members of the Legal team, you will:

  • Support and promote Zurich’s values, ethics, and responsible business conduct in your day‑to‑day work.
  • Assist the Company Secretariat with:
    • organising board and committee meetings and statutory meetings
    • preparing meeting packs and basic governance documentation
    • supporting board effectiveness reviews, renewals, and Director training.
  • Help identify and escalate potential conflicts between management and legal entity perspectives, ensuring these are managed appropriately.
  • Support more senior lawyers in advising on laws and regulations related to non‑insurance commercial activities, such as:
    • sourcing and procurement contracts
    • data protection and privacy
    • human resources and employment‑related matters.
  • Assist with maintaining relationships with insurance regulators, including helping prepare documentation and information for regulatory interactions.
  • Contribute to work on maintaining an effective and transparent corporate governance system, ensuring compliance with laws, regulations, and Zurich principles.
  • Help monitor legal and regulatory developments, preparing initial summaries and briefing materials and working with Compliance to support implementation.
  • Support senior lawyers in:
    • structuring and negotiating local corporate transactions
    • protecting Zurich’s assets and managing local legal issues.
  • Work with the M&A legal team by helping to collate information and documentation needed to meet regulatory requirements in proposed transactions.
  • Assist the business with insurance law and regulations across the value chain (including cross‑border aspects), for example:
    • licensing
    • product development
    • distribution and reinsurance.
  • Contribute to project work by:
    • providing input to project teams
    • preparing draft documents and reports
    • learning from, and being coached by, more experienced team members.

As you grow in the role, you will have the opportunity to take on more responsibility and handle matters with increasing independence.

Your skills and experience:

We’re looking for someone who is at an early stage of their legal career and keen to learn:

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in law (LL.B or equivalent; an LL.M or further relevant qualification is an advantage but not essential).
  • Newly qualified or post‑qualification experience as an Attorney‑at‑Law, Manx advocate, solicitor, or barrister.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain legal concepts clearly and concisely.
  • Some exposure to insurance, financial services, or regulatory work is helpful but not essential – a genuine interest in developing expertise in these areas is key.
  • Good analytical and problem‑solving abilities, with attention to detail and a practical mindset.
  • An interest in corporate governance and corporate transactions, and a willingness to learn how legal issues impact business decisions.
  • A collaborative, proactive approach and readiness to work as part of a multidisciplinary team.
